Battery standard IEC 62133 transition deadline extended
In June 2009, the CMC (Certification Management Committee of the CBScheme) made a decision that Lithium Ion (and nickel Metal Hydride)batteries used in all types of equipment and appliances should complywith the IEC Standard 62133 as follows: [*]FromJune 26, 2010 until June 26, 2011, LI batteries tested to the ULstandard 1642 must be subjected to additional testing to the identifieddifferences between UL 1642 and IEC 62133.[*]From June 27, 2011, batteries must be tested and certified to IEC 62133 only.InMarch 2010, IECEE announced that the implementation of the CMC Decisionon Batteries has been postponed.The CTL (Committee of TestingLaboratories of the CB Scheme) is working on the official comparison ofIEC 62133 and UL 1642 as well as UL 2054, and is expected to submit itsfinal results for approval by the CMC at the July 2010 meeting in TelAviv.The CMC will then decide on the appropriate timing and format ofthe transition.
